Francesca Cavallo is an Italian writer, entrepreneur and stage director. She's the co-author of the global bestselling book series "Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls" and the co-founder of the company that created it, Timbuktu Labs. Francesca launched the two most successful crowdfunding campaigns in the history of publishing, creating a movement for the empowerment of young girls that inspired millions of people around the world.

As a speaker, Francesca Cavallo focuses on female empowerment, female leadership, and the power of fostering diversity to promote an innovation-oriented culture and also on her successful crowdfunding campaigns.

Francesca Cavallo's career began in theater, managing a theater company, and in 2011 turned to the development of Timbuktu Magazine, the first iPad magazine for children, which led to the creation of Francesca's first company, Timbuktu Labs, founded in 2012 with journalist Elena Favilli.

As part of the startup incubator 500 Startups, Timbuktu raised a first round of investment in Silicon Valley, then chose to stay away from the world of traditional Venture Capital, moved its headquarters to Los Angeles, and turned to Kickstarter to fund the next stage in the life of the company.

In 2016, Francesca presented "Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls", a collection of 100 bedtime stories each inspired to the life and adventures of 100 extraordinary women from Cleopatra to Serena Williams. The book was presented on Kickstarter with the goal of raising $40,000 to print the first 1,000 copies. After only 28 days, the campaign had raised $675,000 from 13,000 backers coming 75 countries, and "Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls" had become the most crowdfunded book in history. By working in a completely disruptive manner, outside of the traditional publishing world, "Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls" sold more than 4 million copies and it was translated into 48 languages, becoming a New York Times best-seller and one of the most influential book series of the past decade according to Common Sense Media.

An LGBTQ activist and an entrepreneur, Francesca Cavallo recently left Timbuktu Labs to start UNDERCATS, INC. a new company producing original IP that inspires families all over the world to embrace diversity and gender equality.
