Karla Wheelock is one of Mexico’s most prominent mountaineers, as well as a social entrepreneur, businesswoman, and communicator. Known as the first Latin American woman to summit Mount Everest’s north face in 1999 and the first Ibero-American woman to conquer the Seven Summits in 2005, Karla has transformed her mountaineering experiences into a platform to inspire and train leaders across business, education, and social spheres.
A lawyer by training from the Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila, Karla Wheelock holds master’s degrees in Socio-Environmental Business Administration and Environmental Law and Public Policy. Her professional career spans both public and private sectors, with roles in the Office of the Presidency of Mexico, the Ministry of Commerce and Industrial Promotion, and private companies.
Karla is the founder of impactful initiatives like “Mi Cumbre Mi Decisión,” the “KW Foundation,” and the Young Mexican Leaders’ Expeditions to Antarctica, which promote leadership, environmental awareness, and skill development for youth and entrepreneurs. She is also the author of “El tercer polo: ascensión al Everest” and “Las 7 cumbres,” where she shares her insights and life philosophy.
As a member of the IUCN’s Communications Committee and Women for Conservation at CAPLAC, Karla actively supports environmental conservation efforts, showcasing her dedication to sustainability.
