Starting out in mini-basketball in 1980, in Italy, Sergio Scarioli's career has been marked by his success in more than 13 basketball clubs, including Virtus Pallacanestro Bologna, Real Madrid and the Toronto Raptors, amongst others.
At the age of 29, he won the Scudetto coaching Victoria Libertas Pesaro, and it was not until 1997 that he arrived in Spain to coach Saski Baskonia, with whom he won the Copa del Rey in 1999.
Scarioli also coached Real Madrid, winning the Liga title and being named the best coach in Spain.
As the most successful coach in the history of the Spanish national team, where he has coached since 2009, Sergio Scariolo has won seven medals, three in his first period and four in his current one.
In addition, his honors include Gold medals at the 2009 and 2011 Eurobasket championships, a Silver medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games, a Gold Medal at the last Eurobasket 2015, a Bronze Medal at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games in 2016, a Bronze Medal at Eurobasket 2017, and most recently, a Gold Medal as champions of the 2019 Basketball World Cup held in China.
Sergio Scariolo has also been the assistant coach for the Toronto Raptors of the NBA, winning the first NBA title in the history of the Canadian team.
