José Peñín is the most prolific wine expert and writer in the Spanish speaking world and one of the most experienced journalists and writers on the subject of wine and other alcoholic beverages. A true pioneer Peñín was the first to rate the quality of Spanish wines, and the most widely recognized expert in these issues internationally.
In this field he has received over 25 titles and has founded the most prestigious wine guide in the Spanish world, the Peñín Guide to the Wines of Spain. This publication is Spain's most famous and comprehensive wine guide and has been the most influential for the international trade of Spanish wines and is the most widely consulted in the world, making Peñín the most important author in this field. The printed version of the guide is now complemented by the Guia Penin website (Guiapenin.com).
A tireless traveller, he has visited a big part of the vineyards in the world. At the same time is a lecturer, consultant, taster of recognized standing and member of several international juries. He is also founder of Pi-Erre Comunicación Integral, the first Spanish wine communication agency.
In 1980 Peñin created Bouquet –Spain's first magazine dedicated to wine and the wine industry, and now continues his writings through freelancing work for such prestigious publications as El País and Tiempo.
