John Browne is the former CEO of BP who was voted Most Admired CEO by Management Today from 1999 to 2002.He was responsible for making BP one of the world’s most successful oil companies following the merger of BP and Amoco. He also repositioned BP as a green oil company, through investment in renewable sources of energy and re-branding the company as Beyond Petroleum.
John was the leading author of the Browne Review, a study about the funding of Higher Education in the UK. The review proposed sweeping changes to university funding and is the basis of the government’s present plans for higher education.He is a Partner of Riverstone Holdings LLC, a multibillion dollar private equity firm focused on leverage buyout and growth capital investments in the energy and power sectors. The firm is a leading investor in renewable energy infrastructure and technology.
John is currently a Fellow of the Royal Society and the Chairman of the Trustees of the Tate Gallery, in 2011 he finished his 5 year rotation as President of the Royal Academy of Engineering. He serves on the Board of Directors for Cuadrilla.
