Letters on the Move: An Innovative Program to Promote Reading

We proudly present Letters On The Move, an innovative reading promotion program designed to link literature and sports

With the support of Spain’s Ministry of Culture and the Community of Madrid, we proudly present Letters On The Move, an innovative reading promotion program designed to link literature and sports. This initiative brings together elite athletes and renowned authors in unique conversations that explore the powerful narratives shaping both disciplines. This initiative is part of our new business unit aimed at bringing the world of ideas closer to the general public, reinforcing our mission to create a positive social impact through culture.

Bringing literature and sports together means uniting two seemingly different worlds that, when combined, create a space where human emotions and experiences intertwine in extraordinary ways. On the one hand, Sports emphasize teamwork, perseverance, and personal growth, providing a fertile ground for storytelling. Literature, on the other hand, allows us to dive deep into the minds and hearts of its main characters, enabling us to experience their wins and struggles on an even more intimate level.

Among the lineup are some of Spain’s most influential athletes and authors, whose careers exemplify leadership, resilience, and teamwork. Notable names include Gema Hassen-Bey, a pioneer in Paralympic fencing; Fernando Olmeda, journalist, writer, and documentary filmmaker; Jorge Valdano, football legend, former coach, and ex-player for Real Madrid and Argentina’s national team; Sebastián Álvaro, creator of Spain’s legendary adventure series Al Filo de lo Imposible; and Raquel Lanseros, award-winning poet and one of the most acclaimed voices in contemporary Spanish poetry.

This initiative also represents an opportunity to bring culture closer to younger generations and encourage reading habits. Through a special series dedicated to young readers, high school students will attend a talk with writers and athletes to discuss their favorite books.

Letters On The Move will take place from February 23 to 28 with in-person events at select cultural centers in major Spanish cities, including Instituto Cervantes, Casa del Lector, and Biblioteca Eugenio Trías in Madrid; CaixaForum in Barcelona; and Biblioteca Bidebarrieta in Bilbao. We invite you to check the full program here.

In line with our mission to develop projects with a positive impact, Letters On The Move also seeks to promote reading as a tool for personal and social growth.

“Letters On The Move becomes a safe space where these narratives converge, reinforcing our commitment to creating projects with a positive social impact and strengthening our new cultural division’s social mission,” claims Beatriz Rodríguez, Director of Literary Agency & Cultural Services at Thinking Heads.
