Manuel Conthe is a prominent Spanish economist and lawyer, known for his leadership in national and international financial and governmental institutions. He served as President of Spain’s National Securities Market Commission (CNMV), Deputy Minister of Economy of Spain, and Vice President of the Financial Sector at the World Bank. Conthe played a pivotal role in developing economic policies in Europe, including the preparation of the Maastricht Treaty and the introduction of the Euro.
Throughout his career, Manuel Conthe has held significant positions. He was a member of the Board of Directors at the Bank of Spain and the Monetary Committee of the European Union, where he led discussions on the single currency and convergence programs. Internationally, he served as Vice President of the Financial Sector at the World Bank, developing the Financial Sector Assessment Program (FSAP) and representing the World Bank at the Financial Stability Forum. He also worked with the Inter-American Development Bank.
As President of the CNMV from 2004 to 2007, Conthe spearheaded the creation of the Unified Code of Corporate Governance, popularly known as the *Conthe Code*. Since 2007, he has chaired the Advisory Board of *Expansión y Actualidad Económica* and regularly contributes to media outlets such as *El País* and *ABC*. In the legal field, he has worked in international arbitration and financial law with the firm Bird & Bird.
