Erika Mouynes is an accomplished public servant and a leading business and legal executive in Latin America.
Erika Mouynes’ most recently served as the 62nd Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Panama, one of the few female leaders in the region to ever hold such a high-ranking title. Her outstanding experience in the public, private, and academic sectors has made her a recognized international authority on geopolitical analysis.
She is currently the Chair of the Board of the Atlantic Council-Latin America and is working on an academic project at Harvard University that analyzes risks, opportunities, and trust in the region.

Erika Mouynes’s career and contribution to society:
A Fulbright scholar with several postgraduate degrees, Erika. Mouynes holds an LLM in Corporate Law from New York University and an LLM in International Law from the University of California at Berkeley, as well as a specialization in Business from New York University’s Stern School of Business. She carried out parallel studies at two undergraduate universities in Panama: Santa Maria la Antigua Catholic University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in law and political sciences, and the Latin American University for Science and Technology, earning a Bachelor’s degree in business administration, both with Magna Cum Laude honors.
Throughout her accomplished professional career, Erika. Mouynes has accumulated a remarkable combination of both government and private sector experience. She has held several high-ranking government positions across different government ministries, practiced as a senior attorney in several leading international law firms, and managed the business and legal affairs of a multi-billion dollar investment company on Wall Street.
During her recent tenure in Panama's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2019-2022), Erika. Mouynes delivered substantial progress and advancement at the national and regional levels across various business and policy issues. Committed to integrity, economic sustainability, and pragmatic activism within the system, she leveraged an innovative public service agenda and data-based platform to successfully deliver on a range of matters from climate change and digital inclusion to irregular immigration and gender inequality.
A pragmatic and business-savvy leader known for effective bridge building, Erika Mouynes' expertise in promoting and brokering meaningful dialogue among key public and private sector stakeholders enabled her to convene some of the Western Hemisphere's most well-attended conferences for high-ranking government officials and global business leaders over the last decade.
Among her relevant achievements, she successfully delivered effective climate diplomacy, targeting collective action focused on strategic alliances with key partners across continents. She was instrumental in the development of the first-ever alliance of the few countries in the world that are carbon-negative, as well as the formation of an alliance of nations that created and secured environmental protection for the largest pacific marine corridor in the world—effectively combining the marine reserves of four key countries to create one of the richest pockets of protected biodiversity on the planet.
