Raquel Vaz Pinto is a researcher at the Portuguese Institute of International Relations (IPRI) of Universidade Nova de Lisboa and an Associate Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the same university. She is a respected voice in the debate on international politics, particularly on Asia’s strategic dynamics, human rights, and global power relations. As a resident analyst at SIC Notícias, she has been an active contributor to political literacy in Portugal.
With a solid academic career in International Relations, Raquel Vaz Pinto served as President of the Portuguese Political Science Association and as consultant to the Board of Trustees of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. She is the author of several books and essays on global politics and contemporary culture, including Os Portugueses e o Mundo (FFMS), A Grande Muralha e o Legado de Tiananmen, and Para Lá do Relvado: O que Podemos Aprender com o Futebol (Tinta da China). She also wrote the introduction to the new Portuguese edition of George Orwell’s 1984 (Penguin). In addition, she is co-author of influential podcasts that have shaped public debate, such as As Amigas de Eleanor (FLAD), and participated in two seasons of [In]Pertinente (FFMS).
