Marta Temido is a Portuguese politician and current Member of the European Parliament, elected in July 2024. She served as Minister of Health from October 2018 to September 2022, gaining national prominence during the Covid-19 pandemic through her constant presence at press conferences and leadership in public health policy. Trained as a lawyer, she holds a PhD in International Health and a Master’s degree in Health Economics and Management. Before joining the European Parliament, she served as a Member of the Portuguese Parliament and led the Lisbon branch of the Socialist Party.
Marta Temido graduated in Law from the University of Coimbra, earned a Master’s in Health Economics and Management from the same university, and completed a PhD in International Health at NOVA University of Lisbon.
Before becoming Minister, she held senior positions in health management, including Deputy Director of the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Non-Executive Chair of the Board of the Red Cross Hospital, and President of the Central Administration of the Health System.
Between 2018 and 2022, she served as Minister of Health, leading Portugal’s response to the pandemic. After leaving government, she was elected Member of the Portuguese Parliament (Coimbra), led the Lisbon branch of the Socialist Party, and in 2024 was elected to the European Parliament, joining the S&D Group.
