Joaquín Estefanía is one of the most influential voices in economic and political journalism in Spain. Known for his deep and critical analysis, he has become a leading authority on the effects of financial globalization and inequality. With degrees in Economics and Information Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid, Joaquín Estefanía has had an illustrious career in journalism. He began as a reporter for *Informaciones*, later becoming the head of the economics section for *Cuadernos para el Diálogo* and editor-in-chief of *Cinco Días*. He joined *El País*, one of the most prominent newspapers in the Spanish-speaking world, where he served as director from 1988 to 1993 and later as publications director for Grupo PRISA.
Currently, he is the director of the UAM/El País School of Journalism and continues to write columns on economics and society for *El País*. His commitment to journalism has been recognized with the Europa Journalism Award for defending democratic freedoms and the Joaquín Costa Journalism Award for his work on Latin American debt. Additionally, he serves on the board of the Gabriel García Márquez-led Foundation for New Ibero-American Journalism.
