Ignacio Escolar is a journalist, writer, and founder of *eldiario.es*, a Spanish digital media outlet that has rapidly become one of the most read and influential news platforms in Spain. His career is marked by a strong commitment to independent journalism and investigative reporting, having exposed high-profile cases in Spain such as the “Black Cards” of Caja Madrid and the scandal surrounding Cristina Cifuentes’ master’s degrees. Additionally, he is the founder of Bitban, a technology and design consulting firm specializing in digital media, which has worked with prominent newspapers in Latin America and Spain. Recognized as a digital pioneer from early on, he has received multiple awards for his impactful contributions to journalism.
Ignacio Escolar began his career as a digital journalism pioneer, launching *Escolar.net* in 2001, a blog that became one of the most widely read and awarded of its time. He founded and served as the first director of the newspaper *Público* in 2007, where he also wrote as a columnist. Throughout his career, Escolar has received notable awards, including the José Manuel Porquet Digital Journalism Award and the Gabriel García Márquez Award for Journalism Excellence. He is also the author of several essays, such as *La Nación inventada* and *El secuestro de la justicia*, the latter co-authored with Judge Joaquim Bosch.
