Who is Elvira Fortunato?

Elvira Fortunato is one of the most influential figures in science and innovation in Portugal and Europe. A full professor at NOVA FCT and deputy director of the i3N Laboratory, she gained international recognition as the inventor of the first paper transistor and for her groundbreaking work in transparent electronics. As Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, she led key reforms to bring research and higher education closer to major societal challenges. Her impact extends to public policy, gender equality, and sustainable development, establishing her as a multidisciplinary leader.

Throughout her career, Elvira Fortunato has led the i3N Laboratory, establishing Portugal as a leader in advanced materials, nanotechnology, and sustainable electronics.
