Co-founder of Shazam and experienced Digital Business Executive
Dhiraj Mukherje, whom the Financial Times included in their Top 50 tech entrepreneurs, is the co-founder of Shazam, an innovative app which can recognize songs just by listening to them for a few seconds. Shazam has achieved a market valuation of a billion USD, a real “unicorn” in the digital age lexicon. In addition, its potential has attracted great investors such as Carlos Slim. Shazam is among the 20 most downloaded apps in history. Previously, Dhiraj Mukherjee was Head of Banking Innovation at Virgin Money, where he was responsible for development and product implementation, as well as proposals and disruptive associations for digital banking. His recent projects include leading the team in charge of creating Virgin Money Digital Bank’s next generation product, which will serve 2.2 million students in the United Kingdom.
Throughout his career, Dhiraj Mukherjee held directorial positions in a variety of sectors including media and entertainment, as well as consultancy and charity. In 2000, he co-founded Shazam, which he directed from 200 to 2004, collecting £ 600,000 in seed funding and over £ 10 million in venture capital funds in three rounds. Dhiraj Mukherjee has been an observer in the Shazam executive board since 2004, and actively participates in the definition of the general product and corporate strategy.
Prior to this, Dhiraj Mukherjee worked in positions related to strategy and innovation in disruptive high growth businesses, including Bauer Media, Infosys Limited, What If Reuters and Save the Children. Thanks to his extensive experience, Dhiraj is also an active angel investor, mentoring new tech start-ups and advising venture capital businesses. Dhiraj was chosen as a member of Digital Bank Club’s “Power 50” in 2016, as well as Smith & Williamson’s “Power 100” in 2017, to support entrepreneurs. He regularly participates in important tals concerning entrepreneurship, FinTech and emerging technologies.
Dhiraj Mukherjee obtained his degree in Mathematical Economics at Datmouth College, USA. He also holds an MBA by the Graduate School of Business de la Universidad de Stanford.
