Before becoming one of Switzerland’s most prolific blockchain entrepreneurs, Daniel Gasteiger has worked in financial services for more than 20 years. Starting out as an FX trader at Credit Suisse, he later joined UBS to work with hedge funds and third-party banks promoting the company’s business-to-business algorithmic trading solutions and Prime Brokerage services. In his last role prior to starting his own business, he built up and managed the UBS Chairman’s Office in a Managing Director role.
Fascinated with the future potential of blockchain technology, Daniel decided to leave the banking world in 2015 to found his first blockchain advisory company “nexussquared”. In 2016, Daniel founded his second venture, Procivis AG, a company that develops e-government solutions backed by blockchain technology. Procivis’ first client is the Swiss canton of Schaffhausen, who is using Procivis’ digital identity platform “eID+” to deliver e-government services to its citizens. Procivis further launched a project together with the University of Zurich to develop a blockchain-based e-voting solution and, as an extension of eID+, is working on a fully self-sovereign, integrated electronic identity and personal data management platform called “VETRI”.
As a co-founder and Chairman, Daniel set up “Trust Square” in 2018 with the goal to establish Switzerland’s pre-eminent blockchain start-up and research hub in the heart of Zurich’s financial center directly on Bahnhofstrasse opposite the Swiss National Bank. Trust Square is meanwhile the world’s biggest blockchain hub and the home of more than 40 blockchain and cybersecurity start-ups with more than 3’500 m2 of office space.
His latest venture “Verum Capital AG”, which he helped co-found in May 2018, provides boutique style M&A advisory services in the field of blockchain. Having advised a bank on the first security token offering of a fully regulated financial services company globally, it since became a leading advisory firm for incumbents of the banking industry.
Daniel Gasteiger is also a founding board member of the Global Blockchain Business Council and a founding member of the expert council of the Switzerland Blockchain Federation and holds various other national and international blockchain advisory mandates.
Daniel is a TEDx speaker (“Blockchain demystified”) and spoke on the topic of blockchain’s impact on society and business at more than 80 conferences and industry events as well as at a dozen universities and business schools across the globe.
Daniel is a Swiss and Italian national and studied banking at Business School Solothurn and IT business engineering at AKAD Zurich.
