Dr. Tasaka became a Professor at the Graduate School of Tama University in Tokyo in April 2000. He teaches students the philosophy, vision, policy, strategy and skills of social entrepreneurs and social enterprise.
Dr. Tasaka founded Think Tank SophiaBank and became its President in June 2000. SophiaBank is a worldwide network think tank that connects social entrepreneurs and acts as a “socio-incubator” that encourages social entrepreneurs to create new social systems.
In 2003, Dr. Tasaka established the Japan Social Entrepreneur Forum (JSEF) and became its President to foster and support social entrepreneurs in Japan. JSEF is a network organization where 12,000 social entrepreneurs exchange information, create actions and promote collaborations.
In addition, he started an internet radio station called SophiaBank Radio Station, the first one by a think tank in Japan in 2006 to connect the activities of SophiaBank and those of JSEF.
He has worked as an outside director and advisor for various firms in industries such as information, logistics, finance, education, and the environment since 2000.
After starting his professional career in 1981 at a private corporation in Japan, Dr. Tasaka worked as a visiting researcher at Battelle Memorial Institute and Pacific Northwest National Laboratories in the U.S. from 1987 to 1988.
After coming back to Japan, he participated in the founding of The Japan Research Institute (JRI) in 1990. The Japan Research Institute embraces the vision and strategy of “Industry Incubation”, which aims to create new industries with private sector initiatives. As a member of the Board of Directors, Director of the Center for the Strategy of Emergence, he collaborated with 702 private companies to establish and manage 20 consortia within from 1990 to 2000. Dr. Tasaka is currently a JRI Fellow.
In addition to these activities, in 1995 he founded CommerceNet Japan in collaboration with CommerceNet in US, a nonprofit organization in Silicon Valley promoting electronic commerce. In 1999 he founded NECSI Japan in collaboration with the New England Complex Systems Institute (NECSI) in Boston and is the Director of NECSI Japan.
Dr. Tasaka is the author of more than 40 books.
