Arlindo Oliveira is a national and international authority in artificial intelligence and information technologies. With an outstanding academic and scientific career, he has actively contributed to advancing knowledge and fostering critical reflection on the impact of technology on society. A Distinguished Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico, President of INESC, and Non-Executive Director of Caixa Geral de Depósitos, he combines academic, scientific, and corporate experience with a strategic vision for humanity’s digital future.
He graduated in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico and earned his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, as a Fulbright Scholar. He was a Visiting Professor at MIT and has conducted research at renowned institutions such as CERN, the University of Tokyo, and the Berkeley Cadence Laboratories. He has served as President of Instituto Superior Técnico, INESC-ID, and the Portuguese Association for Artificial Intelligence. He is a member of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences, the Academy of Engineering, and a Fellow of ELLIS. He has received numerous awards, including the Universidade Técnica de Lisboa/Santander Award and the ACEPI Career Award. He has published five books and hundreds of scientific articles in artificial intelligence, algorithms, bioinformatics, and computer architecture.
