Who is Arancha González Laya?

Arancha González Laya is an internationally respected expert in global affairs, diplomacy, and multilateral cooperation. She currently serves as Dean of the Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA) at Sciences Po, one of the world’s top institutions in international studies. As the first woman to lead this prestigious school, her mission focuses on fostering multilateralism, equity, and sustainable development through academic leadership. Her purpose is to prepare the next generation of global leaders with a strong ethical and strategic vision for international policy.

What is her background?

She has held several high-level positions in global institutions. She served as Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation from 2020 to 2021. Before that, she was Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the International Trade Centre (2013–2020). She also worked as Chief of Staff to the Director-General of the WTO and held key roles within the European Commission focused on trade and development. A lawyer by training, she is a member of PSIA’s Strategic Committee since 2017. She holds a law degree from the University of Navarra and a postgraduate degree in European Law from the Carlos III University of Madrid.
