Anna Rosling Rönnlund is the co-founder of The Gapminder Foundation, alongside her father-in-law Hans Rosling and husband Ola Rosling. Gapminder’s mission is to counter “devastating ignorance” about the world through accessible, fact-based insights everyone can understand. Globally recognized for reshaping social and economic paradigms, Anna helps people grasp the true state of the world and the global challenges we face.
Currently, Anna is the Vice President, Head of Design, and User Experience at Gapminder, and also serves on its board of directors. In 2016, she founded Dollar Street, a unique visual database that uses photos as data points to show how people live at different income levels worldwide, moving beyond national and cultural stereotypes.
Anna’s contributions at Gapminder include the development of free educational materials and the design of pioneering educational tools. She created the user interface for Trendalyzer, an animated graphing tool that visualizes global development data, widely used by students and educators. Google acquired Trendalyzer, leading Anna to join Google as a Senior Usability Designer from 2007 to 2010, where she worked on improving access to public data and visual data exploration tools, including enhanced charting options in Google Spreadsheets.
Anna Rosling Rönnlund’s talks delve into global patterns and inequalities with a visually innovative, human-centered approach, merging statistics with photos that capture everyday life worldwide. Her accessible and revealing style encourages audiences to question stereotypes and gain a deeper understanding of socioeconomic realities across different nations. Anna’s presentations surprise and engage, as she brings data to life through stories of progress, poverty, and diversity.
In this talk, Anna presents “Factfulness,” illustrating how many views of the world are based on outdated data and stereotypes. This conference challenges common myths and assumptions about global issues, providing a much more realistic and positive outlook.
Through Dollar Street, Anna provides a visual tour of daily life across different income levels and regions. Using compelling images, this talk breaks down myths around poverty and wealth, showing how income impacts lives in ways that are both direct and relatable.
