Luís Magalhães is a lawyer, consultant, and tax expert with a distinguished career leading the most prominent Tax Advisory team in Portugal and providing strategic consulting on taxation. He is currently Head of Tax and a member of the Executive Committee of KPMG Portugal, a position he has held since 2008. With a multidisciplinary approach and extensive experience in tax reforms, restructurings, and investment projects, he is a respected voice in debates on taxation and economic governance.
He holds a Law degree from the Portuguese Catholic University and completed executive education at INSEAD (YMP). Luís Magalhães began his career in the financial sector, leading the Tax & Legal department of the BPI Group, where he was involved in structural reforms that had a significant impact on the Portuguese economy. These included privatizations, the securities market, investment funds (real estate and financial), M&A, and international expansion projects. He joined KPMG in 2002 as a Partner in Financial Services and, in 2008, assumed national leadership of the Tax practice, becoming a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. He also contributed to the launch of KPMG’s operations in Angola and leads the firm’s strategy for Northern Portugal. In addition, he serves on the Standing Committee of the Strategic Council of Start-Up Portugal.
