Chema Alonso studied Computer Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Madrid and earned a PhD in Cybersecurity from Rey Juan Carlos University. He founded Informática 64 in 1999, which was later acquired by Telefónica and renamed ElevenPaths, its cybersecurity division. He joined Telefónica in 2013, where he served as Chief Data Officer and Chief Digital Officer, leading AI, Big Data, and security projects for 14 years as a member of EXCOM and the Cybersecurity Council. In 2015, he joined Cloudflare as Vice President and Director of International Development. His role focuses on driving Cloudflare’s global expansion, strengthening its presence in Europe and Latin America, and building strategic alliances.
Chema Alonso began his professional career in 1999 as a security consultant at Informática 64, a company he eventually directed and which was acquired by Telefónica in 2013 under the name ElevenPaths, the telecommunications company’s cybersecurity division, where he serves as CEO. In 2016, he was appointed Chief Data Officer (CDO) at Telefónica, where he has led the company’s global data protection and cybersecurity strategy. Chema is a computer engineer with a PhD in computer security and founder of the blog “Un informático en el lado del mal,” one of the most-read cybersecurity publications in Spanish.
Throughout his career, he has received numerous recognitions, including the prestigious Microsoft MVP (Most Valuable Professional) award in corporate security, which he received from 2005 to 2016.
