English, SpanishEmilio Lamo de Espinosa is a prestigious sociologist and professor who has been president of the Elcano Royal Institute, an illustrious think-tank for international and strategic studies that analyzes the world from a Spanish, European and global perspective. He is currently Emeritus Professor of Sociology at the Complutense University, member of the Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences, patron or advisor to numerous foundations (the Princess of Girona Foundation, the Princess of Asturias Foundation, the Botín Foundation, the Círculo de Empresarios, the Círculo Cívico de Opinión and Forum Forum), and a regular contributor to the media (El País, ABC, Expansión).
He has a Doctorate in Law with distinction from the Complutense University, and a Doctor of Sociology from the University of California. He is the author of 23 books, more than 140 scientific monographs and more than 300 newspaper articles. As a lecturer (in Spanish, English and French) he has given more than 300 conferences in the most varied forums and audiences, whether academic, business, political or international. Considered an eminence of world geopolitics, his exquisite understanding of the global outlook allows him to carry out exhaustive analysis of globalization, world geopolitics, emerging countries and international relations of the main players (USA, China, Russia) and scenarios (Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa) and, currently, the world in pandemic.
Among his numerous recognitions are the Jovellanos International Essay Award (1996), he is Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Salamanca (2012), the XI Otto de Habsburgo Prize (2015) granted by the Pan-European Society, the National Prize of Sociology and Science Politics (2017), XXVII FIES Journalism Award, and Julián Marías Award for research career granted by the Community of Madrid (2018). He has recevied numerous acoldaes including the Grand Cross of the Order of Alfonso X the Wise from Spain, the Order of Academic Palms from France, and a Distinction from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
